Trainers, facilitators, and manager are worried about getting the most from their teams with less resources, over more disperse areas and an ever increasing pace of business. Yet technology has connected us like never before and can help build stronger teams and produce even higher results.
Award winning facilitator, business owner and team building expert, John Chen, has been asked by Wiley Publishing to write a book tentatively called “Team Building Games with Technology”. Chen has signed a contract with Wiley to write a book that can help trainers, facilitators and managers all over the world to deal with these problems. Through the use of technology, Chen will show 50 initiatives you can do with your teams on various types of technology as a way to teach new technology and build stronger communication and trust that leads to stronger teams.
Richard Narramore, Senior Editor at John Wiley & Sons, Inc. said, “While we have best selling books on team building, I haven’t seen many books on team building with technology. John has been an expert in this for over 14 years and I felt the timing was right for this book.” Pre-orders are available at http://teambuildinggames.eventbrite.com, scheduled for publishing in May 2012.
The story behind the book is just as fascinating. John, a 7 time presenter at the American Society for Training and Development was not scheduled to speak at the 2011 conference. But a chance email to Linda David, ASTD Conference Organizer, found that she was in need of a speaker due to a cancellation. John created a brand new talk called “TweetTeams: Using Social Media for Virtual Team Building” in response to ASTD’s push for training on social media.
Over 140 people attended Chen’s talk at the May 2011 http://astd.org ASTD Int’l Conference and Richard Narramore was one of them. Richard approached John after the talk and within a few short weeks, they had a signed book deal. “I’ve had a book on my goal list for over a decade and now I’m excited to work with the BEST business book publisher, Wiley and Sons, on delivering this book”, Chen said.
Wiley realizes that the issue of technology based team building is a serious need for trainers and managers and this was a need in their catalog. They have asked Chen to help by providing their readers and colleges with timely and much needed information on leadership and team building.
Chen will lead a series of online team building events leading up to the book’s publication at http:// teambuildinggames.eventbrite.com if you want to experience a preview of his work and get the latest and greatest team building initiatives and skills for your team. In addition, you can RSS subscribe to http://blog.geoteaming.com for the latest updates on the book.
